QUIET SPACE FRIDAYS: The Spiritual Practice of Withdrawal

A SILENT RETREAT DAY

Does your spirit need to be nourished? Do you need some time alone with God?

Do you yearn for a quiet day away from media, phones, noise and everyday obligations?

Do you wish to sit back and "just be" for a day?

When: About once a quarter on a Friday, we offer a Quiet Day at Five Oak Ranch as a haven of QUIET and STILLNESS where you can rest, based on the pattern of Jesus, who frequently withdrew to a quiet place to nourish his spirit. Encounter God in community, yet alone, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the healing rhythm of sacred quiet. We do not provide a program on this quiet day, but have suggested reading material and retreat ideas. Many people like to bring a notebook for journaling and a Bible or other reading material. Our goal is to provide a gentle, refreshing day so you can rest and enter silence… and hear from God.

What: On the retreat day, our doors will be open from 9-4. You will be greeted and given a tour of the ranch house and outside venues to help you become acclimated. Rooms are equipped with comfortable chairs and many indoor areas are open and bright with large windows, bringing the outdoors in everywhere you turn. A few rooms are available as private spaces for quiet rest and meditation. Outdoors, sit in the sun, walk our seven-circuit labyrinth, sit down by the creek, pray at our Five Oak area and explore our trails. There are many quiet spots with benches where you can relax in the shade or beside a big oak tree. A Centering Prayer time mid-day is offered and an Individual spiritual direction session is available for an additional fee.

Where: Five Oak Ranch spans 26 acres of rolling Texas hill country, conveniently located just 10 minutes from the intersection of I-45 and MoPac Expressway. We are a member of the worldwide Quiet Garden Movement which nurtures access to outdoor spaces for prayer, contemplation, rest, and inspiration. We are also a  National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat. Directions will be sent via email following your paid registration.

Other: Please bring your own bag lunch. Drinks are provided. Wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes and bring a hat, a Bible or other reading material, a journal and pen. Please bring a towel for sitting on outdoor benches and chairs. Cost is $25 for the day. MORE INFORMATION WILL BE SENT AFTER YOU REGISTER.

Here are some comments from previous attendees:

"This is a ***** review - written hesitantly. There’s a large part of me that feels like protecting this sacred gathering - but the compulsion to share with other seekers wins - hope you can make time to listen and experience the beauty of Five Oak Ranch with Nancy’s gently guided retreat." SD

"Five Oak Ranch offers a unique respite in our noisy world. A lovely opportunity for quiet, beauty and comfort. Such a balm to the soul." LD

"I explored the well-loved property. I observed the goats and chickens. I took a much needed nap. I perused a delightful collection of books. I had a wonderful conversation with Nancy over lunch and a time of centering prayer. Quiet time to myself is a luxury made easier by doing it together in such a beautiful place." - Mary Ann

"This silent retreat was exactly what I needed and I didn’t even realize it. It was such a gift to reconnect with myself and God in this beautiful serene place. Nancy totally makes you feel welcomed and cared for and organizes the retreat so you can be mindful and intentional about your time there. Connected with some wonderful ladies there. Highly recommend, treat yourself to this special retreat you will not regret it. Already looking at the calendar for the next time I can attend."   - MV
