MORE INFORMATION

"Centering prayer is a receptive method of silent prayer in which we experience God’s presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself. This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship." -Contemplative Outreach.

The practice of centering prayer  helps us to go within and remember that we are Divinely created. Consider joining us Monday and Friday morning from 730-8 am. If you’d like to practice on your own between sessions, this phone app works really well.

These prayer sessions serve as a steady anchor allowing us, through God’s grace, to experience contemplative times of inner stillness and a peace that passes understanding.

The Format for each session

  • 7:30am: gathering in silence (all muted). Creating your own sacred space and lighting a candle is encouraged.
  • 7:35am: opening  with chant and Psalm 46:10
  • A bell is toned and 20 minutes of silence is kept.
  • A bell is toned.
  • Closing: Recite the Lord’s Prayer together muted
  • 8am: host invites participants to begin their day or remain for a Lectio Divina experience and time to share.

What participants have to say:

For those who have considered joining a Centering Prayer group but didn’t think you could sit still and be quiet for the length of the class, I know exactly how you feel. I too am one of those people, and I also could not deny my curiosity about understanding the presence of God in this manner. Honestly, my first 2-3 weeks were rough,
but I am now eager for the prayer time, I feel a peaceful camaraderie with others attending, and I have begun to hear God differently through this process of freeing my mind. I hope you will join us and give it a try.        - Jody

The commitment of these two 30-minute sessions a week was a starting point to grow in prayer and continue my journey with Christ. Centering Prayer gives me the opportunity to take a block of time to set aside for deep communication with my Holy Father. As Cynthia Bourgeault said, the only way you can fail at Centering Prayer is to walk away from it. Feeling blessed, Patti
