Solar Eclipse Labyrinth Walk

Total Solar Eclipse Labyrinth Walk

Monday April 8, 2024

Join us for a rare event as we come together to celebrate and observe the total solar eclipse taking place over Texas on April 8, 2024. The eclipse will occur roughly between 1:32 p.m. and 1:41 p.m. CST and since we are on the edge of the Texas Hill Country, we expect to experience almost 2 minutes of totality during that time span.

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the Earth, casting a large shadow that either partially (a partial solar eclipse) or totally (a total solar eclipse) blocks sunlight. While partial eclipses occur twice per year, total solar eclipses happen only once about every 18 months. And the last time a total solar eclipse happened in Texas was 146 years ago—way back in 1878—making this upcoming event especially spectacular and rare. Also, a solar eclipse won't happen again in the United States until 2044!

Why walk the labyrinth during a time of solar eclipse?  Solar eclipses have been viewed as significant events with both spiritual and symbolic meaning in various cultures throughout history. Here are a few other thoughts:

Solar eclipses can remind us of the vastness of the universe and our place within it. This awareness can lead to a sense of humility and a greater appreciation for the cosmic order. At the same time, witnessing together brings a sense of interconnectedness and shared experience on Earth.

As the Sun temporarily disappears during an eclipse, this event reminds us to let go of old patterns, release negative energy, and embrace spiritual growth in our lives. The time of an eclipse can be used to reflect on our lives, set new intentions, and connect with our inner self.

The time surrounding an eclipse is a time when the ordinary rules of the world are temporarily suspended and can be a powerful moment to connect with the mystery of God and the universe.

The alignment of the Sun and the Moon during an eclipse symbolize the balance between opposing forces or dualities, such as light and dark, masculine and feminine, and the conscious and the unconscious. Eclipses are seen as times when these dualities come together and harmonize.

* Bring your own Approved solar glasses for safe viewing of the event or ones will be available for $3.

"The experience of walking the labyrinth offered a great shower of relaxation and appreciation that was totally unexpected. I have never walked a labyrinth and found it an expansive, spiritual experience as well as a centering one. - MH
