
Try Group Spiritual Direction
Do you want to try out group spiritual direction without committing to a monthly group?
If you’ve never participated in spiritual direction or group spiritual direction before, this was created with you in mind. This group will walk you through what to expect, answer any questions you may have and guide you in the practice itself. You will not only learn about group spiritual direction, but you will experience it. This is a great way for you to try it out before committing to a monthly group.
Group Spiritual Direction Process Outline
Review Listening Guidelines
Arrive 10 minutes in advance to settle in and quiet.
Facilitator leads process and keeps time.
A. OPENING
Opening offering/meditation to ground group and connect with what most needs listening to right now.
2 minutes of silent prayer.
B. PRESENTER
First participant shares for approximately 5 minutes to what wants to be shared within. Others prayerfully listen only.
2 minutes of silent prayer for the person who has shared.
Listening for God on their behalf.
C. RESPONDING
In one or two sentences, each has a chance to offer what prayer might have risen in the silence for the person who presented. (Silence can be a sufficient response.)
Silence follows each response.
Person who presented is invited to respond to what they heard in the prayers for them.
2 minutes of silence.
REPEAT
2nd Participants presents.
3rd Participant
If there is time 4th Participant.
D. REFLECTING TOGETHER led by Facilitator
"The last 10 minutes of the process is set aside for reflection together. The focus for this time is the sense of prayerfulness within the group and within individuals. Whatever is addressed — silence, words, the human dynamics within the group — is viewed in terms of that prayerfulness, looking at what has served it or has gotten in its way.”
